Transportation

The Committee proposes to study transportation and highway related issues that the Wyoming Department of Transportation identified. The Committee will study how the Wyoming Department of Transportation is currently funded and explore solutions to reduce the department's current budget shortfall. The Committee will review work zone safety issues, including but not limited to, using cameras, increasing fines in work zones, and implementing other safety measures for Wyoming Department of Transportation employees and contractors when working on highway construction projects. The Committee will receive updates from the Wyoming Department of Transportation, which may include discussing permanent trailer registration and commercial air service. The Committee will also determine if statutory updates are necessary to reflect outdated statutes and references.

The Committee proposes to study issues that the Wyoming Military Department and stakeholders presented to the Committee. The Committee will study the Wyoming National Guard member referral incentive program including consideration of extending the sunset date of the program and expanding program eligibility. The Committee will also explore other solutions to increase the strength of the Wyoming National Guard. The Committee will determine if statutory updates are necessary including discussing the statutory reimbursement for burials of indigent veterans regardless of a veteran's combat status. The Committee will study issues related to veteran services including prohibiting compensation for advising or assisting a person on veterans' benefits matters except as permitted by law and providing limited liability for a person that returns a firearm to the firearm owner at the termination of a firearm hold agreement.
